I was such a dedicated person to Praise Team at another church I felt I couldn't miss rehearsals and this Class was only given once a year on Sunday evenings. I recognized it was something I had to experience, I got the songs, and the tapes for the rehearsals, and practiced on my own. I showed up for this Genogram and Class that showed me some important dynamics in my family and how I was inter-relating with them and "why".
Years later, I would experience an intergenerational trauma genogram through a loving counselor at Robin's Hope. This would reveal more about my distortions, my perceptions, my pain, my truth around enabling, the family roles, addictive behaviors, and the lengths I went to try to protect, calm, and keep myself and others safe all the while not truly seeing them as suffering their own battles as mirror images of handling crisis much of them the same way.
The reason for this particular piece is my youngest brother, Jon. We have a close and strong bond. He helped me complete my "ACA Yellow Workbook", " Family History Diagram". He's helped me put the pieces together of my trauma that I couldn't remember or blocked. We talked last week and he's getting to complete his own genogram. I love how we get to see each other on the spiritual path to truth and recovery!
Here's a great article on Genograms if you're interested.
