SMART GOALS AND CHUNKING

Good morning early birds!!!

I'm studying Gloria Flores, "Sobriety Life Coaching" offered through "Transformation Academy".

One of the relatable and personal tools presented is setting SMART GOALS and CHUNKING.

First WHAT EXACTLY is a SMART GOAL?

The ACRONYM for SMART is:

S is for SPECIFIC

M is for MEASURABLE

A is for ATTAINABLE/ACHIEVABLE

R is for RELEVANT

T is for TIME-BOUND

In this particular lesson, each of the acronyms are broken down and explained.

1. Specific: What are you looking to accomplish? Set a clear and SPECIFIC GOAL. The narrower your FOCUS is, the EASIER it will be for YOU to DETERMINE how EXACTLY can ACHIEVE IT.

Here's how to get more SPECIFIC with your GOAL:

What do I want to accomplish?

Why do I want to accomplish this? Why is important to me?

Who are the people involved in order to ACHIEVE this GOAL?

WHERE is this LOCATED?

What RESOURCES or ROADBLOCKS are involved?

For Example:

Wrong: I Want to become a better Virtual Assistant.

Right: I want to UPGRADE my MS OFFICE SKILLS to become a better Virtual Assistant.

2. Measurable: Break your goal down into measurable elements. By tracking your progress, you will know when you have completed your goal. This will keep you motivated and help you determine what kind of metrics to scale your progress.

Here's how to look at the MEASUREABLE aspect:

HOW MUCH IS INVOLVED?

HOW MANY DO YOU NEED?

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN I'VE ACCOMPLISHED IT?

For Example: I'm halfway towards my goal of upgrading my MS Office Skills if I already finished half of the training modules, I have available.

3. Attainable/Achievable: Your goal should be possible to ACHIEVE. It might even be a CHALLENGE for you, but it's REALISTIC. Always ask yourself, is this GOAL SUSTAINABLE?

For Example:

Wrong: I want to sign 1245 clients up in a month (I have a team of 10).

Right: I want to increase our sales by setting up FACEBOOK ads and get at least 3 sure-fire clients a day.

4. Relevant: This asks if your goal really specifically MATTERS to YOU. Does it make sense to you and align with other visions and goals currently? What is the benefit of accomplishing this goal? WHY and HOW does this particular GOAL matter so MUCH to YOU?

If this GOAL is Relevant, you can say YES to the Following QUESTIONS:

Does this seem worthwhile?

Is this the RIGHT TIME?

DOES it ALIGN with Your (OUR) other GOALS and OBJECTIVES?

Does it MATCH Your (OUR) other EFFORTS/NEEDS?

DOES it BENEFIT my COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION?

AM I the RIGHT person to ACCOMPLISH this GOAL?

IS It APPLICABLE In My Current SETTING/REALITY?

5. Time-bound: Set your target date. Not all goals will have the same deadline. Sometimes it will take 6 months, sometimes 7 days. This will depend on the type and specificity of the goal YOU are WORKING on.

As I did this tool for myself, I recognized, I wanted to weekly update my coaching page. I did this yesterday and started from my most recent certification, Grief Coaching, adding resources.

Next, is a simple tool called "Chunking".

15 Chunking Examples (Memory Psychology) (helpfulprofessor.com)

This tool can be used to set a long-term goal and break it down into smaller pieces, "chunks". These are achieved and then the next one is achieved unless YOU find the GOAL needs to be ADJUSTED. The CHUNKS Are PRIORITIZED, deadlines are SET, and ACTION IS TAKEN.

This tool reminds me of painting my house inside. I set a goal of 6 months. I did have to adjust it. I still have a few inside doors to paint, but every room was painted!

I'd love to hear your own personal experience with these tools.

As always...

Peace, Curiosity, and Adventure,

Laura
